Phil Boardman as Geoffrey Chaucer
During the summer of 2007, I portrayed Thomas Malory in the Great Basin Chautauqua in Reno. Paired with Clay Jenkinson's portrayal of John Steinbeck (below, left), the Malory performance emphasized the Chautauqua theme of "creativity," and late medieval issues of tradition and innovation. Malory took a host of existing French and English Arthurian romances and created from them Le Morte Darthur, the prose compendium of stories from which virtually the entire English Arthurian tradition grew.
