PTSD Toolkit

Welcome to the PTSD Toolkit website. On this website you can learn accurate information about trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to help you make decisions together with your primary care or behavioral healthcare provider about identifying, managing, and overcoming symptoms of PTSD. This is what we call health literacy and shared decision making. It is important for you to understand what science says about what psychotherapy works. This is what we call evidence-based treatment.

  1. Health literacy is being able to read, understand and judge the value of health information; consider the risks and benefits and make decisions and take action.

  2. Shared decision making is when you and your provider consider your preferences and the best treatment options available to make a decision together.

  3. Evidence-based treatment is treatment that has been proven to work by multiple scientific studies

On this website you will learn:

  1. What PTSD is, what causes it, and what makes your symptoms continue

  2. How to identify, together with your primary care or behavioral healthcare provider, if you’re experiencing symptoms of PTSD

  3. Where to look for help and what treatments work and don’t work

  4. About the resources (self-help books, mobile apps, and websites) that are available to you

We hope that this website will be a positive experience for you.
