Course Text: Multivariable CALCULUS , Concepts and Contexts 3rd edition by James Stewart.

Tests: There will be 4 one-hour tests as well as a comprehensive final. In general the final exam grade will count a third of your grade if it helps you and a fourth if it hurts you. However, your final exam grade can be so bad that it causes you to fail, regardless of what your average is, and it can be good enough to raise your course grade higher than your average would imply.

Test Dates: September 22, October 13, November 10, December 8. Final Exam: Dec. 19, 7:30 -9:30 AM

Grading: The grade scale will be A, B, C, D, F.

Coverage: During the semester we hope to cover the following sections: 9.1 - 9.7, 10.1 - 10.5, 11.1 -11.8, 12.1 - 12.8, 13.1 - 13.8

Homework: The homework assignment will usually be made up of two parts: (1) a practice part and (2) a turn-in part. The practice part will be discussed in class the day after it is assigned and will not be turned in. The turn-in part will usually consist of problems on the same material that the practice problems were from on the previous day. You are not discouraged from working together, but the paper that you turn in should be your own work, not a copy of someone else’s work. If all you can do is copy someone else’s paper, please don't bother. Your paper will be graded and returned to you for discussion if necessary. No questions on the turn-in problems will be answered until they are graded and returned to you, and no late turn-in homework will be accepted regardless of excuse. From time to time we may also have unscheduled short quizzes on the homework. Some of the turn-in homework may require some writing.

Calculators and Computers: You should already have a graphing calculator. Although we will not use these extensively, their graphing capabilities will be needed occasionally and you may use them on quizzes, tests and homework unless otherwise noted. The Computer Algebra System MAPLE it will be used occasionally in class presentations.. We will not have any formal instruction in MAPLE, but if you are interested in using it yourself, there is a MAPLE tutorial that can be accessed by a link at the bottom of my web page. It is mostly concerned with graphics. Also, MAPLE for your use is available at http://artemis.library.unr.edu/Citrix/MetaFrameXP/default/frameset.asp or you may use MAPLE in the Math Center in AB 60.

Attendance policy: The attendance policy is that there is no policy. Whether you attend class is your business; your presence in class will not affect your grade either positively or negatively.

Disclaimer: The above is a guideline only and may be changed at any time on short notice.
