The table below lists a subset of the sites that were available on the web and part of the California Air Resources Board PM10 beta gauge monitoring network.  The data was provided on an hourly basis and plotted by hour and as 24-hr averages.

The plot below shows 24-hour averages of the hourly PM10 concentrations for all of the sites.  Two important features can be clearly seen in this plot.  During the period from April 19 through April 24th, all of the sites experienced elevated concentrations of particulate.  From newspaper articles and conversations with air pollution management organizations, this was due to the combination of several forest fires in Idaho and Oregon.  The Asian dust affected the regional pollution levels during the period April 25, 1998 through May 2, 1998.  All sites indicated relatively high concentrations with Truckee and Bakersfield recording the highest.

The plot below shows the same data set but all hourly measurements.  The Truckee site is characterized by the highest diurnal variations of all the sites because of the local sources impacting the site.  This type of plot illustrates the impact of local sources as well as large scale regional sources.
