Textbook: University Calculus, Hass, Weir and Thomas.
Course Coverage: Emphasis in this course will be placed on understanding the underlying concepts rather than memorization: knowing why is the key to knowing how.  We will cover selected sections in Chapters 10-14 of the textbook.

Grading policy: Your grade will be a function of your scores on midterm exams, homework and the final. Your grade will be computed as follows:

Three midterm Exams

240

HW

60

Final Exam

100

Total Points

400

Letter grades will be based upon your numerical score: A: 90%, B: 80%, C: 70%, D: 60%.

Homework: Solving homework problems will help you to understand the key concepts and to master the skills you will need to succeed in this course. You should try to work on the problems assigned for a section as soon as the material is covered. You may discuss problems with other students, but all submitted work should be your own. Quizzes, if any, will be counted with HW.

Attendance is encouraged but not mandatory; you are, however, responsible for everything discussed in class. As a courtesy to your fellow students please arrive on time and make sure your cell phones are turned off during class.

Final Exam:  The final exam is mandatory. There will be no early finals.

Missed exams: Accommodation for a missed midterm exam will only be considered for serious circumstances with documentation. At instructor discretion, accommodation can mean a make-up exam or a change in the weights of other exams and/or the final.

Note: The Mathematics Department supports equal access for students with disabilities. I encourage any student with a disability to meet with me at your earliest convenience to ensure timely and appropriate accommodations.
