Dr. Jeffrey LaCombe is Department Chair of the Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).  His background and interests principally span the fields of materials engineering and mechanical engineering.


Dr. LaCombe's research projects have spanned several areas of science and technology, with emphases in two principal areas: 1) Metallurgy, and 2) Autonomous & Remote Systems. Since 2001, he has served as PI or Co-PI on research projects totaling over $7M, for sponsors including NASA, NSF, DOE, USDOT/FHWA, NDOT, and others.


Dr. LaCombe has 16+ years of experience as an engineering educator, which includes extensive experience in interdisciplinary 1st-year engineering education.  He is an active proponent of engineering education in K-12 classrooms.  Supporting numerous curriculum development and instructional interests, Professor LaCombe has also been responsible for coordinating the ABET accreditation for the Materials Science & Engineering program at UNR for the current (2017) and previous review cycles.
