Linda Newman, Geoscience & Map Librarian

DeLaMare Library, University of Nevada, Reno

Welcome to my home page!

South Carolina is my origin: I graduated in International Studies from the University of South Carolina. Working my way through college in libraries, it occurred to my that this was my calling. While working at the Indiana State Library, I attended the Indiana University Graduate Library School at Bloomington, where I completed my M.L.S.

Since joining the faculty at the University of Nevada, I have held positions of documents librarian, instructional services/reference librarian, mines and map librarian, and am now Geoscience and Map Librarian in the DeLaMare Library.

At the University of Nevada, DeLaMare Library (which combined the Mines and Engineering libraries in 1997), I handle collection development for geological sciences, geography, and maps. I always appreciate any suggestions of acquisitions in this area for the library.

Geography has always been an obsession of mine--places, especially natural or historical settings. Learning about areas and experiencing them up close and personal is my avocation--whether hiking in the Sierra or Nepal or enjoying the urban offerings of D.C. or London. And I would enjoy hearing about your travels too!

Please stop by the DeLaMare Library and say hello: you can't miss my office located in the Ansari Map Library on the second floor of the DeLaMare Library in the historic Mackay Mines building at the north end of the Quad.
