University of Nevada, Reno: Art 260 (formerly Art 116)
Art 260 surveys the history of art in western civilization from the the pre-historic period through the Gothic era (ca. 1400). The course typically covers the primary developments in the Near East, Egypt and Western Europe.
Art 260 will not be taught by Dr. Growdon in the 2006-2007 academic year. Professor Howard Rosenberg will offer it during Fall 2006.
Required Text:Fred S. Kleiner and Christin J. Mamiya, Gardner's Art Through the Ages, Vol. I, Twelfth Edition. Thomson/Wadsworth: Belmont, CA, 2005. This book is ordered as both the paperback Volume 2, and as the hardbound edition encompassing both volumes, in case the student plans to take Art 260 as well. It is cost effective to invest in the hardbound edition.
Hacker's A Pocket Style Manual (4th edition: Bedford St. Martins) or any current equivalent is also required, as well as Christina Maranci, A Survival Guide for Art History Students. Pearson/Prentice Hall: New Jersey, 2005.
Professor Rosenberg uses the Gardner text, but may not require any other texts, and you should check with him.
