Research Interests

Quantifying barriers and facilitators to the use of fire to enhance restoration opportunities in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In particular, how do fuels, weather, topography and other physiographic factors interact, and how do these interactions vary spatially and temporally? Given these factors, how do human factors such as regulatory and sociopolitical environments interact with biophysical factors to enable or restrict the application of fire? Better identification and quantification of times and places when and where these factors align will facilitate opportunistic strategies for implementation of prescribed fire and managed wildfire programs.
