(Visualization Project was supported by NSF and conducted at TAMU)

Motivation
Visualization and 3D animation methods facilitate the
understanding of power system steady state phenomenon
and electromagnetic transients in power systems

Objectives

  • Develop novel visualization methods for power system transients, power flow and power system state estimation
  • Implement them and demonstrate their effectiveness using simulations
  • Investigate their utilization for the analysis and solution of power system steady state problems or power system transients

A Powerpoint Presentation on
Visualization of Electromagnetic Transients in
Electrical Power Systems

 Visualization of power flow in
IEEE 118 bus system

Movies

  • Triangular representation of voltage profile of a power system transmission line during a 3 phase to ground fault using 3 phase voltages. (Transmission line is represented by 10 sections, fault is located at the 8th section) Perspective view,   Front View  (view the animation files with VLC Media Player)
  • Circular representation of voltage profile of a power system transmission line during a 1 phase to ground fault using aerial and ground mode voltages. (Transmission line is represented by 10 sections, fault is located at the 8th section) Perspective view,   Front View (view the animation files with VLC Media Player)
  • The animation (perspective view) of bus voltages and angles in IEEE 118 bus system during a transaction using terrains and coloring. Details of the method can be found in here.
