Pinch clamps are used to pinch tubing in various equipment set-ups, to regulate the flow of liquid (or air, or gas) into or out of a system. Common uses include regulating the flow of solvent through a chromatography column, or regulating the airflow through a vacuum trap.
Pinch clamps come in a variety of designs and shapes; the three most common are represented above. Typically, you will find the white plastic pinch clamps in the labs, although many of the bent-wire pinch clamps are still around. Feel free to exchange one of these two types for another at the stockroom. The screw-type pinch clamps are available at the stockroom for check-out, if needed.
