filter flask

filter flask

Sometimes called a "vacuum flask" or a "side-arm flask", filter flasks resemble Erlenmeyer flasks in shape, but are made with heavier walls and feature a short side-arm portruding from the neck of the flask. When this side-arm is connected to a vacuum source via rubber tubing and the top of the flask is stoppered or fitted with a Buchner or Hirsch funnel, the filter flask is able to hold a reduced pressure without imploding. This makes them ideal for vacuum filtration, which is their primary use, and is also responsible for their comparitively higher price.

Cost: depending on size, approx. $5.50
